When in Nimes!

Nimes! Where to start. After 3 three weeks here I have finally ventured more than 15 minutes outside Nice. Nimes was a place that I had heard about over the summer from a Canadian woman on the metro. And in my prior experience it is always best to go with the advice of random elderly Canadian women. And it sure did pay off.

Nimes is a town about 3 hours west of Nice via train. It is a rather small city not far from the coast. But it contains some of the oldest and best preserved monuments from Ancient Rome. For anyone majoring in classics, it's a dream come true. These buildings were built to honor and thank Rome for making it a Roman Colony, thus giving its inhabitants the privileges of a Roman citizen.

Here are some of the really cool things that are there.

(sidenote: My camera broke. These were taken with my iphone. Please bear with.

The Amphitheatre.
You may have seen it in The Gladiator. It played the part of the Colosseum.

The Market Place.
These are all different types of potatoes.

La Maison Carre'e
The Square House
Forum built in 16 b.c. It is now used to showcase a 3D movie.

The Famous Pont du Gard
Famous Aqueducts/ Cameo actor in Volkswagen commercials

Fountain.
Someone didn't get the memo to hang up her cell phone.

Still being hella rude.

A Temple to Diana
